A Day in the Life.
I was looking back on old blog posts recently and discovered a “Day in the Life” blog post from a few years ago that gave a little peek into the work, work, work lifestyle I had going on at that time. It was surprising to read through old comments and see how many people were interested in seeing beyond the blog and hearing a little bit more about what a typical day was like in my world, so I wanted to take you along for an updated glimpse into my everyday.
I’ve embraced being a morning person over the past few years which means my alarm is set for 6 AM every morning. I love the early morning hours because I’m always my most productive right after I wake up and really enjoy soaking up some quiet time before heading into the office. After my alarm goes off I immediately check my sleep on the Amazfit app on my iPhone – I’ve been wearing my Amazfit Equator activity & sleep tracker for over a month now and I’m totally hooked! It’s been really interesting to track the amount of deep sleep I get each night and see a huge correlation between my percentage of deep sleep and how I feel each morning.
Mornings are typically spent either working out with a Flywheel class or working on the blog for a few hours – both really tend to set the tone for my day, it always feels really good to get your sweat on before the workday begins and starting the day by checking several things off my to do list motivates me to keep my productivity up throughout the day so I can make the most out of every moment.
Around 8 AM I quickly get ready to head into the office and leave the house by 8:45 AM – I’m lucky enough to only have a 10 minute walk to work and it’s my time to clear my head and shift gears into work mode. I always try to walk as much as possible throughout the day, from my commute to/from work to sneaking in an afternoon coffee run to stretch my legs a bit – since I started wearing my Amazfit I’ve become hooked on tracking my steps and making sure I hit at least 10K steps every day (most days it’s actually around 15K!). I’ve dabbled in fitness trackers in the past but I’ve always found them too intrusive but my Amazfit has become a really integral part of my day – the minimalist design is gorgeous so it blends in seamlessly with my other jewelry and it’s so lightweight that I forget I’m wearing it most of the time. It’s also waterproof and holds a charge for almost two weeks which means I’m rarely without it anymore!
Once I’m settled in at the office my day is usually full of a variety of meetings with the team and our clients – every day tends to be very different which means there’s always something new to think about and there’s never a moment of boredom. I recently started blocking the first and last hour of my day to get shit done without the risk of having a meeting booked and it’s made a huge difference in my work schedule; if you ever feel like you don’t have enough time to actually work, I highly recommend it!
Having a better work/life balance has been a priority for me over the past year so I try and leave the office around 5:30 PM and use my walk home from work to switch out of work mode so I don’t carry any work day stress home with me. Most nights we cook dinner at home (and by we, I mean B cooks because I hate it) and hang out for a bit before I shift back to blogging and work on upcoming posts and catch up on emails and social media before it’s time to head to bed. I’m definitely someone who needs her sleep so I try to be in bed before 11 PM every night – my sweet spot tends to be right around 8 hours so the Amazfit sleep tracker has been really helpful for me to monitor how many hours of zzz’s I’m actually getting and take my bed time seriously!
I’d be lying to you if I said that I have the whole balance thing totally figured out with blogging, a full-time job, my relationship and staying fit – it’s a puzzle where I’m constantly moving the pieces around but prioritizing my sleep and fitness have really helped a ton over the past year. It can be really tempting to skip the gym during a busy week or stay up late to check a few extra things off your to do list, but staying active AND getting enough sleep are both critical for feeling your best. The Amazfit has become my secret weapon for holding myself accountable in both the sleep and fitness department and I’ve gotta say, I’ve never felt better (and seriously, how pretty is it?! I’ve gotten so many questions from people since I started wearing it – even just compliments on it as a bracelet!).
