How Do You Stay Active?

How Do You Stay Active?

How Do You Stay Active?

I’m not the kind of person who would ever say they love working out. You’ll never catch me hitting the gym and I always tend to dread workout classes (thank goodness for those cancelation fees!). Those amazing post-workout endorphins that everyone seems to rave about never quite kick in for me, so being active and staying healthy is really something I need to think about and prioritize, otherwise it just won’t happen. With busy days and packed calendars, its all too easy to say there’s just not enough hours in the day to squeeze in a workout or to choose convenience over food that’s actually good for you but I swear, taking a little time to stay active really goes a long way!

Lately I’ve been focused on finding balance in my health and fitness routine. I’ve realized the all or nothing approach isn’t really healthy or sustainable so I’ve ditched the calorie counting and extreme workouts in favor of finding little ways to stay active and make healthier choices in my every day. My two biggest secrets? Walking as much as possible and staying hydrated at all times.

Choosing to throw on your sneakers instead of grabbing an Uber can not only save you a ton of money (you don’t even want to know what I was spending on cabs until recently…) but also is such an easy way to get moving and stay active. With San Francisco’s cool climate and crazy hills, running errands can easily count as a workout and there’s nothing more satisfying than checking your steps and total distance walked at the end of the day!

I’ve also been making a serious effort to stay hydrated at all times. I’m always thirsty and while it’s usually pretty easy for me to remember to drink water throughout the day when I’m at my desk working, I’m terrible about it while I’m on the go. I’ve found that any time I feel a little off, it’s usually because I’m dehydrated and lately I’ve been making sure I always have a bottle of hint water stashed in my bag so there’s no excuse for not staying hydrated. I like to consider hint water my partner in crime for making staying hydrated not only easy, but enjoyable as well with just enough flavor to be much more exciting than plain water but without any of the sugars or calories of juice or soda.

This is so me – I hate the gym but obviously love the results of staying active and working out. I needed to read this! Time to get back on track and stay active!

Well I am pregnant right now and I mostly try staying fit by doing yoga and go for a walk when I feel good. :)

Great advises! My way of staying fit is staying away from cars or Uber or any kind of transportation for my daily routine, as much as I can. It has proved to be working!

I am a gym person; but not a gym rat! I try to go for an hour workout each weekday morning. I’m not a “class or group” workout person either, and I don’t work with a trainer or anything. I just want to go and do my routine whether it’s just various cardio workouts in a day or cardio mixed with light weights etc and then I want to leave and go home and get on with my day. My husband and I take a nice little evening stroll together with the dog after dinner and as a mom of 3 kids with a house that always needs cleaning, I stay pretty active just on a regular day to day basis!

Hadn’t even heard of hint water, I might have to check it out! I am like you–hate “working out” but love walking and carry a bottle of water everywhere! :)

I’ve been walking/running 3 miles a day on our local bike path while listening to podcasts so I don’t get bored. A little goes a long way!

I’ve been trying to stay active-er (is that a word??) this year but yeah, the struggle is real. We try to bike as often as we could, especially since the weather has been gorgeous lately!

  • I’ve been trying to stay as active as possible everyday by going to the gym and trying to take the stairs whenever it’s possible lool! Never heard of this water before, definitely need to try this one out.

I’ve been trying to get back in shape so this post could not have come at a more perfect time!

  • I love walking outside but it is just too dang hot here 9 months out of the year. We recently joined a gym and I honestly feel like I work out harder using the machines!

  • I love walking outside whenever I can, especially when the weather is nice :) sometimes it’s hard since where I live you basically have to drive everywhere but whenever I can, I try to walk! I’ve never tried hint water before but it sounds really good :)

I love your mentality about all or nothing..It’s so true!! Maybe exercise and dieting fit within your life and not the other way around. It should be something that enhances your life! Great post!

I have been working on walking more places and using my car less. I have also been choosing venues to visit where there is a lot of walking involved. It makes a huge difference. You don’t need to kill it at the gym to help yourself.

I have to stick to a workout schedule. I workout at the same time everyday.

  • I agree about walking!

I live, not in San Francisco, but in New York City. I walk for most of my errands! It’s just a way of life – walk to this store and that, walk to a friend’s house, even walk to the subway if I”m going too far to only walk.

We can do it here, though. I was visiting family a while ago, and they can’t even go to the corner for a carton of milk – they have to drive everywhere. They can, and some do, walk around the block for exercise – but that puts it back as this thing you do outside of your life… not just what you do if you want to get vegetables. Very different way to live!

All or nothing never works so I work out when I want to and if I don’t want to, I don’t. Fortunately for me I’m the kind of person who loves working out.

Here in Sacramento, hubby and I walk a lot specially during summer! We rarely use our membership from the gym because of our love for walking around downtown.

Walking is the best. I’m in a permanent missing-Europe state because I loved walking everywhere!

  • Love those shoes and leggings! Staying active and hydrated is so important!
