A Year of Less.
In full transparency here, I struggled a lot with setting my single intention for 2016. Unlike the past two years where I focused on adventure and growth, nothing seemed to jump out at me. I hemmed and hawed over it for several weeks leading up to the new year (and afterward as I procrastinated writing this post). I crowdsourced suggestions from friends. Nothing felt quite right.
During my attempts to set the tone for the new year I started looking back on 2015 and what I had learned along the way. It was by far one of the best years of my life but man, it was also pretty crazy. I moved across the country without having a new job lined up. Blaine and I moved in together. I went through about 50 interviews trying to figure out what was next for my career only to end up in a disappointing role. I went through the friend making process all over again in a new city where I knew no one. We traveled to so many new places, including a spontaneous trip to Japan. I finally found my perfect job. It was a great year, but it was a lot.
Finally I landed on the idea of focusing on less for 2016. Less stuff, more experiences. Less stress. Less time spent on any blog opportunity that’s not a total fuck yes. It’s about focusing on fewer, better. About taking the time to slow down and enjoy myself instead of being a slave to my to do list. A year dedicated to focusing on what’s most impactful, fulfilling and enjoyed in my life, and feeling empowered to pass on anything that doesn’t serve me or genuinely make me happy.
Do you have an intention set for 2016? What are some of your goals or things that you’re working toward this year?
