Getting the perfect shot has become a pretty crucial part of the blog world over the past few years. From Instagram photos to even scrolling through Snapchat filters to find the perfect option to suit our mood. It’s kind of crazy how many photos we snap with our phones considering 10 years ago, most of us didn’t even have camera phones!
Inspired by a recent trip to San Francisco’s Nespresso Boutique and the fact that their newest VertuoLine Evoluo machine makes you the perfect shot of espresso or cup of coffee every. single. time., I wanted to share some tips for snapping the perfect shot of your own. Being a bit of a perfectionist is definitely part of getting the perfect shot, something Nespresso and I definitely have in common – the brand is constantly innovating, from machine technology (each capsule for the VertuoLine Evoluo machine has a unique bar code printed on it which the machine scans to brew your coffee or espresso with just the right amount of water, at just the right temperature to ensure every cup is perfect with just the press of one button) to its recycling efforts and in-store shopping experiences.
A few tips for getting the perfect shot:
- Natural Light is Your Best Friend: When it comes to photography, good lighting is key! Head toward the windows and out of the shadows as much as possible to keep photos light and bright. Shots still looking a little dark? Boost that brightness with an editing app but avoid taking edits too far to keep your photos from looking washed out.
- Have Lots of Options: Gone are the days of film cameras and having limits on the number of shots you can take. Behind every perfect photos are often dozens of alternative options that didn’t quite make the cut. Shoot a variety of options, making tweaks to styling, angles and distance from your subject so you have multiple photos to choose from when making your final selections and edits.
- Editing Apps Work Wonders: Cell phone photography has come a really long way over the past few years, not only with camera technology, but also in the sophistication of editing apps available. Before posting any photo to Instagram I always used VSCO to use one of their pre-set filters (C1 is my jam!) and make tweaks to the photo’s exposure, contrast, sharpness, saturation and temperature.
- Bring in the Pros: The lovely photos you see in this post? They weren’t snapped by me. While I’ve picked up plenty of photography tips and trick so of my own over the years, I’ve also come to appreciate the work of professionals! While it may seem easy enough to take a decent photo, sometimes the equipment and shooting skills of a pro can really take your photos to the next level.
And can we talk for a second about how obsessed with Nespresso I am? My morning cup of coffee has become a really important part of my routine and having a Nespresso at home has been a total game changer for me over the past few years. I remember the excitement of receiving my Nespresso Pixie for Christmas three years ago and the satisfaction of being able to skip my morning coffee run and instead indulge in an amazing latte at home, complete with perfectly steamed milk. That excitement remains today as I’ve started almost every morning since with a sleepy walk over to my Nespresso to make my first coffee of the day – I’ve been so impressed with the quality of the espresso brewed with my Nespresso and just how easy it is to be your very own at home barista, plus their commitment to recycling is incredible (you can even grab a bag in the boutique for your used capsules and they’ll recycle them at a facility that separates the coffee from the metal for both recycling and composting!).
After heading home with my very own Nespresso VertuoLine Evoluo machine, my morning coffee game has reached the next level since I’m now able to easily brew coffee and make latte drinks as well. I’ve been mixing things up a bit and trying something new each morning to break up the routine while still getting my caffeine fix. My latest coffee muse? Nespresso’s Pumpkin Spice Cake holiday edition coffee capsule, which puts any other pumpkin coffee you’ve tried to shame – it’s so smooth and has the perfect pumpkin aroma which makes even the foggiest of mornings feel cozy.
If you’re in the San Francisco area you must check out Nespresso’s Union Square Boutique and grab a drink in their cafe or restock your own capsule stash. And while you’re there you might see a familiar face ;)
