Every year the cold weather really tends to sneak up on us – we get lured into a false sense of security from warm fall days and them BAM… the cold hits. While the cold front isn’t quite as extreme out in California as it was on the east coast and in Chicago, the cooler temps definitely kicked in this week, making me reach for all things cozy to beat the chill.

I’ve added a few thicker sweaters to my wardrobe recently to winterize my usual jeans and a sweater uniform and this mock neck turtleneck from Modern Citizen is a piece I’ve already found myself wearing on repeat and I know I’ll be packing it for our holiday travels to help me bundle up. The texture in the knit is really unique and its slightly oversized, boxy fit works really well with skinny jeans and over the knee boots, or even sneakers for an easy everyday look. And speaking of sneakers… I’m obsessed with these olive green Nikes. As in, I spotted a co-worker wearing them, purchased them immediately and then have worn them almost every day since. They’re so light and comfortable and don’t look make you look like you need to be hitting the gym to get away with wearing ’em. SO GOOD.

For some extra warmth I’ve been layering J. Crew’s plush fleece vest over just about everything – it’s pretty much like wearing a fuzzy blanket and the texture of the plush fleece is a really fun alternative to a faux fur piece. J. Crew also happens to be having their first ever 40% off sale right now which is nuts and the perfect excuse to do a little holiday shopping for yourself. I’d hurry and shop soon as pieces tend to be selling out really quickly in the most popular sizes!

Anyone else all about cozy layers this week?
