Making a Space for Me Time.

Creating A Space For Me Time.

Let’s be real here: Sharing a one-bedroom apartment with another person PLUS a dog is less than ideal, but thanks to the realities of San Francisco’s ridiculous housing market, it’s necessary at the moment. As much as I’d love to have a dedicated office space for blogging (and to have free rein with decorating), we’re making the most out of the space within our apartment and still learning new lessons in cohabitation every day.

A recent lesson learned? A little “me time” goes a long way. I’m talking door closed, your favorite music on, and uninterrupted time to yourself. It’s my secret to sanity within my jam-packed schedule. To make this practice of “me time” more official, I wanted to create a little space in our apartment dedicated to it. So I headed to Target to grab a few new pieces to bring my visions of my very own reading nook to life.

Things started with a chair we had recently added to our living room (but admittedly rarely used) and my beloved book collection that has been lugged from apartment to apartment. To cozy things up a bit and make space for some fresh blooms in my new Nate Berkus textured ceramic vase, I added a metallic gold ceramic garden stool—it’s just the right size to be tucked in alongside the chair, and the rounded corners and Moroccan details add a nice contrast to our otherwise very mid-century living room décor. To cozy up the chair, I layered on a faux sheepskin throw (it’s SO soft!), which added some fun texture to the otherwise neutral seating area. Finally, it was time to add in some art to finish up the space. I’ve had my eye on woven wall hangings since seeing them pop up in lust-worthy home designs on Pinterest, and I was excited to score this budget-friendly piece that paired perfectly with a little reminder for “good vibes only” and a kill-proof air plant.

The results? A space of my own within our shared apartment that’s become my go-to for kicking back and relaxing while soaking up some “me time” (preferably with coffee in-hand).

Do you have a space in your home for “me time”? Anyone else feel like a little alone time is good for the soul?
