Looking for a gift that’s sure to a be a hit? A gift card is always the best idea! Gift cards have become a go to for anyone who can be tricky to shop for since they’re guaranteed to love your gift and you know it’ll go to good use since they can pick out exactly what they want.

The one thing I don’t love about giving gift cards as holiday gifts is that they can lack the wow factor when it comes to opening ‘em – an envelope just isn’t quite the same as a wrapped gift! I was determined to change this and schemed up a new way to wrap gift cards so they look cute under the tree AND are fun to open. Meet the Gift Card Surprise Ball.

What You’ll Need to Create Your Own:

• Various colors of party streamers
• Scotch Tape
• A gift card from Gift Card Mall (you can grab them online or at your local grocery store!)
• Gift card holder
• Decorative ribbon
• Assorted small candies or other “surprises” for within the ball

Start with a gift card to their favorite store or online retailer – I picked up this Nordstrom gift card from Gift Card Mall because let’s face it, Nordstrom seriously has something for everyone and a gift card is always the perfect excuse to treat yoself or put it toward a larger lust list item to help cut costs. Tuck your gift card away in a gift tag or small envelope and grab your party streamers and get wrapping!

To help build bulk and keep the surprise ball from being too flat, tuck small bunches of party streamers within the early layers to begin to build a round shape. Alternate colors of party streamers within layers, sealing each layer with a small piece of clear Scotch Tape to keep the surprise ball from unraveling as you build. Tuck a few surprises within the layers as you build: pieces of candy, notes, small toys or even confetti to add some extra fun to the unwrapping process. When your surprise ball has reached a nice size, finish with a piece of tape and a decorative ribbon and you’re good to go! No wrapping paper necessary ;)
