finding the perfect pair of jeans.

This post is sponsored by Target, one of my very favorite retailers. Thank you for supporting the brands that partner with Pretty & Fun – authenticity is a top priority and all opinions are 100% honest and my own.

I don’t know about you but in my book, shopping for jeans is the worst. There seem to be so many inconsistencies in the sizing and fit of denim – it varies so much store by store that I’m never quite sure what size to bring into the dressing room. I also happen to be someone who hates shopping in-store yet with my denim struggles it’s been necessary… until now.

Target recently revamped their denim designs based on insight from women on the struggle to find the right pair of jeans – from fit to washes to sizing – and are focused on changing the denim experience so the shopping part is just as fun as wearing ‘em. They’re also offering free shipping and returns on all denim orders right now until August 15 which was the perfect excuse to browse their new denim collection and scoop up a bunch of pairs to put to the test in the comfort of my own home to play around with color, sizing and cuts.

So let’s check them out! A look at a few of the pairs I ordered online:

I’m a skinny jeans kind of girl – they’re what I feel most comfortable and confident in (hellooooo stretchiness!) so I was really interested in seeing how Target’s option fit my often difficult to fit body type. Typically jeans fail me in the butt and thighs to waist ratio; when I find a pair that fits great in the waist without gapping or falling down, they’ll be too snug in the thighs and butt requiring a rather awkward squeezing myself into my jeans dance when putting them on. Since my closet is pretty well stocked with skinny jeans already, I wanted to try a new wash and style to mix things up and loved this dark grey destroyed option because of its edgy feel. After trying them on I was not only impressed with the style but the fit and weight as well – jegging fit skinny jeans are not my typical go to but the weight of these was thicker than your average jegging with a more forgiving cut that worked with my curves. A keeper!

Next up? A more comfortable and laid back style: the boyfriend jean. In my past experience with shopping for boyfriend jeans, the right fit can be really difficult to find as things can very quickly go from cute and relaxed to mom jeans. While I already have a destroyed pair of boyfriend jeans in my closet, a recent leg through the knee hole incident left them a little more destroyed than I wanted so I was looking for a replacement pair – I was immediately impressed by the quality of the Target denim and really liked how this pair was just the right length to be cuffed at the ankles. Another Target denim win!

Finally I wanted to really push it and see if Target had a pair of jeans that worked for me that was really outside of my typical comfort zone and what I’d gravitate toward in-store – I mean, why not?! Online shopping with easy, free returns seemed like the perfect time to take a risk and go for it. I grabbed a pair of high-waisted white flare denim (um, probably my first time wearing flare jeans since high school!) – I think the white denim looks really clean and crisp and flares can do wonders for your legs so I wanted to try dressing them up to make them office-friendly with a pair of heels. These definitely fit a little more snug than I’d like (for some reason these seemed to be a size up type of fit while the other two pairs were true to size) but I liked how polished the flares made my outfit look. And although they were cute, I don’t think I’d get enough wear out of them and would need to size up for them to work, so back to Target they go.

Have you checked out Target’s new and improved denim yet? What is your favorite style of denim to wear? Are there any styles that are outside of your comfort zone that you’re curious about?
