Bringing Back the Denim Skirt.
The teeny tiny denim skirt was a wardrobe staple of mine during my high school years. I’d wear it as low on my hips as possible to pass the dreaded ‘fingertip test’ that teachers would randomly check on and had my fair share of excuses as to why my barely covering my butt skirt was in compliance to avoid the shame of being forced to change into gym clothes because of a dress code violation. It was most often paired with a polo shirt or graphic tee that said something wildly inappropriate (my favorite was from Abercrombie and said ‘Don’t call me cowgirl til you see me ride’ which I thought was VERY clever since I rode horses), and worn with cropped leggings during the winter months to keep the look going all year ’round.
Sigh. To be a dumb teenager again!
While I’m much older and slightly wiser these days, I’m currently on a mission to bring back the denim skirt and reintroduce the once beloved wardrobe item into modern times. This option from Levi’s has everything I love about their denim (the Wedgie jean is a GAME CHANGER) and the frayed hem brings me back to my high school days but with a few extra inches of fabric. I’m into the retro vibe a denim skirt brings and have been playing around with how to dress ’em up to feel more mature, like pairing a slinky satin cami with lace detailing, while rolling with the casual vibe with a pair of sneakers.
Summer has been on my mind in a big way lately and I can’t wait to grab my denim skirt for casual daytime outfits with a simple sandal and tee, or bring it along for vacations to be thrown on over a bathing suit for some pooltime.
Have you brought back the denim skirt?
