Equestrian Style.
As you may have noticed from my recent Snapchats… I started horseback riding again in November! I grew up riding and have been dying to find a barn and start lessons again ever since I first moved to Chicago five years ago but the excuses always won and I kept pushing it off to “one day” but it has finally happened and I am SO happy.
Being back in a barn and getting to ride twice a week has been so amazing – it’s been a lot of fun to build strength in the saddle again and relearn all of the nuances of the sport. It’s also been really funny to see how getting back into horseback riding is starting to influence my style; in high school and college there were definitely guidelines around what we could and could not wear while at the barn – it was all about polo shirts tucked into our breeches and looking pulled together even if we were just riding at home.
There’s definitely a preppy side of the horseback riding world and lately I’ve found myself reaching for oxfords and vests, reminiscent of the polo shirts and puffer vests I could typically be found riding in! I’ve also been all about the riding boot and have been obsessed with this quilted pair from Justin Boots – the brand has been creating western wear and actual boots for horseback riding for over 130 years and you can really tell in the quality. From first wear the leather was strong but soft and guys… they’re so comfortable and warm.
With San Francisco’s cold, rainy weather lately, I’ve been wearing them on repeat and know that they’ll come in handy for my trip back to New Jersey next week. Dressed up or down, my Justin Boots are so versatile and I know they’ll continue to be a wardrobe staple for years to come (perfect last minute holiday gift idea!).
Anyone else all about the riding boot for fall & winter?!
